Klaus Georg

Tenor Klaus Georg specializes in oratorio and concert work spanning several centuries. He has appeared as soloist with many local groups, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (St. John Passion and Serenade to Music,) the Grant Park Music Festival (MacMillan The Quickening,) and Music of the Baroque (St. John Passion, Israel in Egypt, Dixit Dominus, and Judas Maccabeus.) His performance of Monteverdi’s Mentre vaga angioletta with Music of the Baroque was described by Chicago Classical Review as bringing “impressive flair to the swirling melismas.”

A highlight of the 2015 summer season was Dr. Georg’s last-minute appearance stepping in as one of four soloists in MacMillan’s The Quickening under the direction of Carlos Kalmar at the Grant Park Music Festival with less than a week’s notice. The concert was an audience and critical success.

Dr. Georg is also active in modern and contemporary music, with recent engagements including Mason Bates’ Sirens with MusicNOW and the soundtrack of 2001: A Space Odyssey as part of CSO’s At the Movies series. This season he also added the demanding role of the Evangelist in Bach’s St. John Passion to his repertoire, and next season brings his debut singing the St. Matthew Passion version of the Evangelist as well.

A member of the Grant Park Music Festival Chorus since 2008, Dr. Georg also serves as section leader in the Chicago Symphony Chorus and is a member of the chorus of Music of the Baroque. A recent graduate of Northwestern University’s DMA program, Dr. Georg has served on the faculty of Loyola University Chicago since 2012, having taught at Carthage College and the Merit School of Music before that.
