About the lecturers.

The Lectures

Each Bach Cantata Vespers service is preceded by a preview lecture at 3:00 p.m. and lasts about 35 minutes, allowing people to find their seats for the prelude to each service at 3:45 p.m. The preservice lectures offer listeners musical and theological insights on the cantata for the service that afternoon. Lecturers are drawn from respected scholars and performers active in the Chicago music community, with deep expertise in Bach’s music and its performance history. A different lecturer speaks before each service, bringing a fresh perspective to that month’s cantata.
